Population policy

Population policy means (a combination of direct and indirect measures with the intention of quantitatively and qualitatively influencing demographic behavior and the social and economic characteristics of the population and finding a balance between population requirements and sustainable development).

Principles of population policy

The principles of the National Population Policy are based on the spirit of Islamic law and the values ​​and constants of society stipulated in the Constitution and charters ratified by the Republic of Yemen, which can be reviewed in the following:

The family represents the basic unit of society, and the responsibilities of preserving it and strengthening its structure from disintegration fall within the priorities of the national population policy. (The family is the foundation of society. Its foundation is religion, morals, and patriotism. The law preserves its entity and strengthens its bonds.) The National Population Policy is an essential component of sustainable and equitable development

Equity and justice between the sexes, empowering women to exercise their rights, and eliminating forms of violence against them are considered one of the pillars of the National Population Policy. (Yemeni society is based on social solidarity based on justice, freedom and equality in accordance with the law) Article (25) of the Constitution of the Republic of Yemen

Crystallizing quantitative demographic goals within the goals of the National Population Policy does not conflict with the necessity of expanding the options of spouses and their freedom to procreate within the framework of the family and responsible parenting.

Paying full attention to mothers and women of reproductive age and taking appropriate measures to ensure their safety Safe maternity conditions against infections, diseases, and risks associated with high and close childbearing, especially at early and late ages. Emphasizing the urgent rights and care of children, promoting parity between male and female children at all stages of life, and eliminating forms of preference between them.

Emphasizing that human development is one of the basic pillars of sustainable economic and social development, and that sustainable development requires slowing down the high rates of population growth, enhancing sustainable production and consumption, and protecting the environment and its resources.

Giving special importance to enhancing the positive side of cultural heritage and reducing influences and practices that hinder the implementation of the goals of the National Population Policy and its programmes.
